Frontend Software Engineer (React Native, web)

As we scale globally, we need to deliver a digital experience that is as reliable, intuitive, and thoughtfully designed as the hardware and technology behind it. That’s why we’re looking for a Frontend Engineer who wants to build products that people truly depend on in environments where usability, performance, and trust matter.

In this role, you’ll help shape and build the interfaces that farmers and internal teams use daily, from onboarding and configuration to real-time monitoring and insights. You’ll work closely with product, design, and backend teams, and have a direct impact on how Monil’s platform evolves as we grow.

Our devices collect tons of data about what the animals are doing. We utilize this data to improve the lives of both animals and farmers. Our expert and experienced team runs our extensive cloud platform, applying deep expertise to provide the best solutions.

In Monil, we don't work in silos – you'll have the chance to contribute to the entire software stack together with our experienced team. We strongly believe in sharing knowledge and constantly learning, with no strict divides between frontend, back-end and infrastructure. As a Frontend Engineer in Monil, you'll work very closely together with back-end engineers and be encouraged to contribute to the entire stack.

What we're looking for

• 1–3+ years of experience building production-ready applications with React and/or modern frontend frameworks
• Solid understanding of TypeScript, component architecture, and state management
• Experience working with APIs (GraphQL or REST)
• BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Informatics or Engineering

Bonus points for:

• Experience with React Native or native mobile development
• Experience working in a startup or fast-paced environment
• Real-life experience with farming or agriculture (not required, but appreciated)
• Norwegian language skills (preferred but not required)

Fluency in Norwegian is preferred (we make exceptions for the exceptional).

Our Tech Stack

• React and React Native: We're building our apps rapidly and correctly – React and React Native helps us do both. This mature way of building apps lets us focus on the important parts, while also peeking under the hood and build features directly for iOS and Android where needed. We're using TypeScript to enforce types, and Expo to simplify our React Native project.
• GraphQL and gRPC: The main interface between the frontends and our servers is our GraphQL API, which lets us efficiently fetch data and update it in real-time. The API lets us fetch what we need and also communicate directly with devices on animals.
• NodeJS, Go, Kubernetes: Our back-ends are written in Go and run on Kubernetes, letting us quickly build new APIs – with features often spanning the entire stack. Even if your main focus is Frontend, you'll get the chance to get experience with the whole stack.
