After School Programme Assistant (SFO) – On-Call Cover

About the position

Birralee International School is looking for caring and enthusiastic assistants to join our After School Programme (ASP/SFO) on an on-call basis, covering short- and long-term staff absences.

Our ASP provides a safe, welcoming environment where children can play, explore their interests and build friendships after the school day. We are looking for people who enjoy working with children and can help make every child feel included and valued.

Position: After School Programme Assistant

Start date: By agreement, ideally at the earliest opportunity

Working hours: During ASP opening hours, as agreed for each assignment

Type: On-call cover for short- and long-term absences, with hours varying according to need

Application deadline: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Your responsibilities

• Supervise and care for children, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
• Organise and support enjoyable indoor and outdoor activities.
• Encourage play, friendships and participation, helping all children feel included.
• Support children's social and emotional development.
• Provide individual support where needed.
• Work closely with colleagues to maintain a positive and welcoming environment.
• Help with daily routines, including preparing activities and tidying shared spaces.

We are looking for someone who

• Builds positive relationships with children and enjoys supporting their development.
• Is patient, caring and attentive to children's different needs.
• Remains calm and responds constructively to challenging behaviour.
• Shows initiative and enjoys organising creative, physical and play-based activities.
• Is reliable, flexible and comfortable joining a team as cover.
• Works well with colleagues and communicates respectfully with parents and carers.
• Can accept assignments at short notice where possible.

Experience of working with children is an advantage. A relevant vocational qualification in child and youth care (fagbrev i barne- og ungdomsarbeiderfaget) is desirable.

Salary and Benefits

The position is paid as an assistant according to the latest Hovedtariffoppgjøret (KS). The person hired will normally be paid from 215 - 283 NOK per hour, depending on qualifications and seniority.

A 2% contribution to the Pension Fund is deducted from the salary.
