Scientific Programmer

In our small and dynamic software team, you'll have the opportunity to engage with all parts of the software stack, fostering a collaborative environment where diverse skills and ideas are valued.

You will be an integral part of our research and development team, by developing and maintaining our products and services for well logging applications. We have developed sensors that emit radar pulses and sample them after reflecting off the wellbore. The Scientific Programmer will assist with improving and developing our software and algorithms to transform the raw data to intuitive 3D visualizations. The key to develop the processing algorithms is understanding how our sensors behave and how the pulses propagate.

Example of tasks:

• Mathematical modelling of signal pulses
• Development of new data processing algorithms
• Improvement of the user interfaces to existing software
• Increasing the quality of the codebase
• Improving the performance of the existing processing algorithms

Part of your work could also be in our lab where you will be testing and verifying your own and the team's new solutions and software.

The candidate we are looking for has:

• Master's degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or similar fields with good academic results
• Previous experience in, and theoretical knowledge of, digital signal processing
• Competency in object-oriented programming, with particular focus on Python
• Good mathematical abilities, preferably with a background in Physics
• Understanding of the importance of type hinting, logging, exception handling and documentation during development

Experience with the following is beneficial and will be emphasized in the evaluation, so please mention if you have any knowledge or work experience of the following:

• Mathematical modelling of physical systems
• Multiprocessing and multithreading in Python
• The HDF5 file format
• The QT framework and the Python wrapper 'PyQT5'
• The data visualization library 'PyQtGraph'
• Version control with Git
• Collaborative programming

Requirements:

You will need to be fluent in English, both written and verbal. Norwegian language skill is an advantage. Since the position could require some training in the USA, you must fulfill VISA requirements for travels to the USA.
