High Resolution Satellite Images for NICFI Satellite Data Program

The current NICFI Satellite Data Program (2020-2024) makes use of daily high-resolution (<5m resolution) optical satellite imagery of the tropics, covering forest countries between 30oN and 30oS. The data are made freely available on daily basis for selected users whilst monthly mosaics are available for all users. The program has become a key component in forest monitoring systems and work of many stakeholders.The purpose of the current Program is to help reducing and reversing the loss of tropical forests, contributing to combating climate change, conserving biodiversity, and facilitating sustainable development.

The Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment, through the Norwegian International Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI), seeks to enter into a contract with a data provider to continue to provide free and open access to high resolution satellite images when the current contract expires in September 2024. For further information on the scope and content of the procurement, we refer to Appendix 1.

The duration of the contract is planned to be be 4 years ("the Term"). The Contracting Authority reserves the right to extend the Term for a period or periods of up to 1 year with a maximum of 2 years (4+1+1) on the same terms and conditions. The value of this procurement, covering the first four years, is estimated to NOK 200 million excl. VAT. This estimate is not binding for the Contracting authority. Price per year covering a possible extension of the Term must be negotiated before entering into a contract.

Options for additional purchases are described in Appendix 2. Prices for additional purchases must be negotiated before entering into a contract.
